Why I am a Certified Professional Business Coach

My “Why” for being a Professional Business Coach is to help my coaching clients to be of optimal service to their clients and the communities they serve.  My clients make positive and important differences in the lives of others, and I help them with their professional and personal growth so that they can accomplish and contribute even more. My teaching background, successful business experience in leadership and management, complemented by a doctorate in leadership and organizational change enable me to recognize client’s unique needs and to design tailored programs to move them from where they are now to where they need to go and want to be in the future.  Living by the adages, “Together is better” and “Solo is too slow”, I provide a coaching system for clients, allowing them to set and attain goals for performance excellence.

What is Business Coaching?

Business coaches help business leaders, owners, professionals, and executives foster their business effectiveness and personal effectiveness. Business coaching is an art and a science. A business coach is very much like a coach you may have had in sports, music, or the arts. Coaches observe, teach, encourage, challenge, and provide structure and accountability to help the people they coach improve.  Coaches reinforce positive advancement and also bring people back to the fundamentals when needed.  They help the people they coach to meet their full potential.

Areas of business effectiveness fall into the broader categories of Strategic Planning, Leadership Development, Systems Implementation, Sales, Marketing, Client Relationships, Human Resources, Financial Management, and Succession Planning.

Personal effectiveness starts with knowing yourself and knowing your own personal vision, mission, goals, and values. It is about being physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. With all of the pressures in our world, it is very difficult to maintain personal effectiveness without paying ongoing, deliberate attention to it.  A business coach provides the structure and knowledge necessary to help people maximize their own personal effectiveness.

A business coach provides a “safe place” to guide and support their clients in reaching the clients’ stated objectives. A safe place is a positive, supportive environment free from judgment or hidden agendas.  There are also no self-imposed, or coach-imposed, limitations on what is possible.  In this safe place, the client is free to speak openly knowing that discussions are considered confidential.

Unlike traditional business consulting, business coaches don’t fix the problems for their clients and then go away.  Instead, a business coach helps guide clients into determining their own solutions to their problems, putting strategic plans in place which will solve the problems, or capitalize on new opportunities.  The coach facilitates creative and strategic brainstorming, facilitating the creation of tactical “action steps” that the client, or client company, will take to implement the strategy.  Once the action steps are committed to, a business coach provides a structured environment rich for plan execution.

What is a Business Coach?

A Business Coach is your partner in achieving your personal and business goals, your trainer in communication and life skills, your sounding board when making choices, your motivator when strong actions are called for, your support when you take a hit, your mentor in personal development, your co-designer when developing an extraordinary project, your beacon during stormy times, your wake-up call if you don’t hear your own, and most importantly, your partner in helping you to live the life you know you’re ready for, personally and professionally.

A Business Coach is an expert in various areas of small business but most importantly in the business of small business and the business process. Although coaches may have backgrounds in various business fields, a good Business Coach is a skilled mentor in business development.

A Business Coach studies what makes a small business successful. In practice, a coach takes the time to understand their client’s business and provides systematic development strategies that help them reach their goals.
